Constructive Interference

walking in their house

so nearly a home

on a mission alone

and it hits me

as I pass by the nursery

inside there are

pink plastic rings with bells

stacks of diapers and a

tiger onesie

remembering now

our first homecoming

tears

but from relief

and even

joy

one second composed

now I am stumbling

hearing again the moans

against sterile walls

I need to be working

they said they could not

they could not

pack up the nursery

so I muster

for at least a moment

putting away faded pink socks

the impossibility

she once had feet just as tiny

and now it comes back swelling

she will never put her toes inside

my vision blurring

for her and

for her

waves

crashing.
