a steady flow of granules
that cascade upon the first breath
awakening our being,
slowly fill up the hourglass
of which we call
life.
i peer into yours,
greeted by grains that
trace the contours of my auricle
and gracefully trickle down my neck.
in your iris
i can see
the vibrant colours
of past memories fading,
slowly
blending with the hue of the dunes.
birthdays, names, syllables,
just out of reach.
i dive into a warm sea of sand,
looking for words that
fit between the silences
in your lapses.
ripples form as i come up for air,
naturally, you turn
and listen,
but only for your ears to tell you lies,
awakening a vacant, distant gaze
and a few words
that draw a blank.
just like floaters in the sky
that aren’t really there
i catch you,
adrift,
lost within a labyrinth of yesterdays
that never truly happened.
and so, i find myself
pondering,
should i seek aid for you
in the place where you will be last seen?
forget it.
amid the shifting sands of time
our bond transcends the
realm’s confines.
though memories may slip away,
our love,
like grains,
will always stay.
